Schmidt calls Wallabies debriefing camp

Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has named a 40-man group for a short, but significant, Sydney camp from 5-7 January, marking the beginning of Australia’s 2026 Test season reset.
The players will gather for three days alongside the Wallabies’ coaching and high-performance staff before returning to their Super Rugby Pacific franchises to prepare for the new season. The focus is twofold: a full debrief of the 2025 Test campaign, and completing national physical and medical testing as players return from their off-season break.

Schmidt said the brief assembly is designed to draw a final line under 2025 before the Wallabies turn their attention to a massive 2026 calendar featuring 14 Test matches.
“The couple of days we have together in early January will provide a final opportunity to look back on, and to learn from, a demanding 2025 Test campaign,” Schmidt said. “It also provides a chance to complete some national testing and check in with the players from a medical perspective before they return to their Super Rugby Pacific clubs.”
The Wallabies will not reconvene again until after the completion of Super Rugby Pacific, placing considerable importance on this early-season alignment as Schmidt refines his plans for a defining international year.
