Smash him!!! New Zealand podcaster mocking South African rugby parents has Mzansi in stitches

The rivalry between South Africa and New Zealand can be fierce at times, particularly on the rugby field, and especially when the All Blacks dare to take on the team that, as of 2023, has won the most World Cups.

But given the proliferation of South Africans living in New Zealand, things can also get a little heated on the local and school-based rugby fields, as a popular podcaster highlighted recently.

A popular host on the Alternative Commentary Collective (@AccNZ) recently took a scathing stab at South African immigrants during a recent podcast. It was brought to the attention of South Africans when reposted by X user iScathulo SePhara.

Referring to passionate parents at New Zealand school rugby events, the podcaster, who calls himself G-Lane, said, “It must be a cultural thing, but they just scream and yell, and the accent is just so grating, and there’s, like, eight-year-old kids getting screamed at by some f#@king crazy dad.

“Yelling, screaming, just like calm the f@%k down. You’re not in the Highveld,” he added.

G-Lane recounted seeing a guy in the middle of winter, with no shoes on, tiny little shorts, a tight t-shirt and a big gut, and he’s, “Just marching up and down the sideline, going (cue in the host’s attempt at an Afrikaans accent) GO! SMASH HIM! SMASH HIM! BOY!!!

“And I was like, Bro, chill out!”

Cue in the accent again: “What did you say? You talking to me?!”

Watch the podcast below, but be warned, there is strong language:

Much of the reaction to the X repost seemed to prove that indeed, most South Africans don’t have any chill, but many point out that it’s quite “rich” for a New Zealander to be complaining about irritating accents.

In a subsequent podcast, the co-host said there had been some retaliation to G-Lane’s comments, with South African parents discussing the podcast in not-so-friendly terms, on a Northshore rugby field. Given the chance to apologise, G-Lane admitted one of his friends had been using the video to wind up South Africans, but stopped short of apologising.
