DA demands latest rape stats against SAPS officers

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it has written to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to demand the latest statistics and detailed information on rape allegations against SAPS officers.

The party is also demanding a comprehensive and updated report on the most recent cases.

The DA says Gauteng recorded the highest number of cases with 27, followed by 16 in the Eastern Cape and 15 in the Western Cape.

Member of Parliament Lisa‐Maré Schickerling says they demand accountability.

“Over the past three years, nearly 330 rape cases have been reported against police members, including incidents where police were on duty and even involving people who were in custody. This is shocking abuse of power and a betrayal of public trust.”

“The DA demands an update on suspensions, arrests, dismissals and prosecutions. Police officers who commit rape must face the full force of the law just like any other criminal,” adds Schickerling.
