Wife outs husband’s double life as fake cop in dramatic police bust
A 42-year-old man’s alleged double life came crashing down after his own wife reportedly exposed his infidelity and then tipped off police about his suspected criminal dealings.
The dramatic arrest unfolded in the early hours of Thursday morning in Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape when officers swooped in on the man.
He now faces charges of fraud, perjury, and impersonating a police officer.
The suspect allegedly posed as a member of the South African Police Service (Saps) and preyed on desperate, unemployed youths.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect posed as a South African Police Service (SAPS) member to defraud vulnerable unemployed youths by promising them job opportunities in exchange for payment,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.
The arrest comes just days after police issued a public warning on February 7 about a fraudulent social media scam circulating mainly via WhatsApp.
The scam falsely advertised Saps vacancies in Jeffreys Bay and even used the fabricated name of a supposed police captain for recruitment enquiries.
“Families and community members are urged to continue reporting any suspicious or criminal activities – even when it involves those close to them,” added Nkohli.
Police have praised the suspect’s wife, whose information led to the arrest.
Authorities are reminding residents that crime prevention is a shared responsibility.
