Employers operating in the mining industry have emphasised the growing need for digital skills.

Around 500 000 people currently work in the sector.

Head of People and Organisation at Valterra Platinum, Virginia Tyobeka, says digital skills will be crucial for the future of mining.

“The jobs and the nature of the roles are changing. They require digital skills and people who are working in our operations must be comfortable with working in our systems and the technical capabilities and skills are the backbone of mining.”
