President Cyril Ramaphosa says that the entire cattle herd in the country will be vaccinated against foot and mouth disease (FMD).

He says this will require 28 million vaccines and these will be centrally administered.

However, Ramaphosa says government will also be working closely with the private sector in this matter.

The president says a task team will be established to monitor progress.

Ramaphosa was speaking during his State of the Nation Address at the Cape Town City Hall in the Western Cape.

He says FMD is damaging the country’s economy, which is resulting in an export ban.
