Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green on the Switch are broken… in a good way!

I’ve been hatching Shiny Jirachi’s on live streams, trading my own Pokémon with NPCs to force Evolutions, and filling my boxes with Celebi as fast as I can hit the A button.

All of this and more is totally possible on the eShop versions of FireRed and LeafGreen, with a perfectly normal Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. These aren’t ROM Hacks or ActionReplay Cheats, these are glitches fundamentally built into the game…

and they’ve been around since the games released on the GBA back in 2004… it just took glitch hunters like LuckyTyphlosion, GifVex and Merrp about 20 years to finally crack it.

What we’re doing is learning how to perform ACE, which stands for Arbitrary Code Execution. Which is a fancy way of saying we can write our own computer code into the Box Names of the PC, and then force the game to run it using a glitched Pokémon.
