More than 16,000 suspects arrested for various crimes

Police have arrested more than 16,000 suspects nationwide for various crimes, including murder, rape, and the illegal possession of firearms.
The suspects were nabbed during operation Shanela from Monday last week to Sunday.
Counterfeit and illicit goods worth R160 million were also seized.
National Police spokesperson Vincent Mukhathi says the operation aimed to intensify crime prevention ahead of the Easter holidays.
“These operations also saw detective conducting raids and apprehending two thousand and twenty six wanted criminals linked to murder , attempted murder , rape , carjacking , illegal possession of firearms , assault , GHB , house and business robberies.”
