Tourism authorities in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) are projecting an estimated tourism spend of almost R1 billion in the lead up to and over this Easter long weekend.

The KZN Tourism and Film Authority say occupancy rates are higher than in 2025, with over 312 000 domestic trips and almost 58 000 international visitors between the 30th of March and the 5th of April.

Deputy Chairperson of the Federation of the Hospitality Association (FEDHASA), Mandy Massey, says they have noticed key trends such as shared accommodation and group travel as tourists look for more value.

“What we’re seeing on the ground is a very stable and resilient accommodation sector, and it is actually a continuation of the momentum built during our December 2025 season that we had. And this Easter promises to be very steady with domestic travel, and KZN is performing as one of our very top choices of destinations. And occupation projection is very much in line and in some areas, it way exceeds the 2025 levels,” says Massey.
