Northern Cape police say they are investigating two cases of murder and one of attempted murder after a man allegedly shot and killed his wife and son and wounded another person.

It is alleged that the 54-year-old man shot his wife at their friend’s house following an argument. His son, who tried to intervene, was caught in the middle and killed.

Police spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers confirms that the shooter is currently in hospital, recovering from a gunshot wound after he allegedly tried to take his own life.

“It is believed that the suspect fired several shots, leaving his wife and son deceased. A 36-year-old female was also injured during the incident and transported to hospital for treatment. The suspect then reportedly fled to the home of a friend where he allegedly sustained a self-inflicted gun wound. He was transported to hospital for treatment where he was placed under arrest and is currently under police guard.”
