Two killed in collision allegedly involving Motsoaledi convoy vehicle

It has emerged that one of the vehicles of the convoy of Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, allegedly hit and killed two pedestrians on the N1 outside Bela Bela in Limpopo.
In a statement, police say the official vehicle was being driven by a member of the Protection Security Services.
The mother and child were attempting to cross the road to a car crash scene where the woman’s husband was hit and killed in an earlier incident on the road.
The woman’s husband was allegedly also hit by a police vehicle.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the minister and the driver stopped at the scene and that statements were taken.
Mathe says both cases of pedestrian deaths were handed over to Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) as they involved police officers.
“In line with standard protocol, the Minister’s close protector and the driver immediately stopped at the scene together with the Minister and remained there until police and emergency medical services arrived. Statements were subsequently obtained from those present at the scene. Two separate cases of culpable homicide are under investigation and the circumstances surrounding both accidents form part of ongoing police investigations. IPID has taken over investigations as both drivers are SAPS members.”
