FS police officer shoots dead 3 people, kills himself

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State are investigating an incident in which a police officer allegedly shot five people, killing three of them, after an argument.
The officer shot and killed himself after the incident, which happened near Hennenman on Saturday morning.
Police say the officer drove to Whittes Plots near Hennenman to search for his girlfriend.
After failing to locate her, the officer went to another location where he had an argument with her relatives.
The victims are the officer’s girlfriend, as well as her mother and uncle.
Provincial Police spokesperson Thandi Mbambo says, “It is further alleged that after the shooting, the member returned to the vehicle and shot himself. The motive for the incident is currently unknown and remains the subject of an ongoing investigation.”
“The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, General Thabang Lesia, has strongly condemned the incident and has expressed his condolences to the families affected by the tragedy. He said this is a deeply disturbing and senseless incident that has left several families devastated.”
Mbambo adds, “He also said on behalf of the South African Police Service in the Free State, he extends his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and wishes the injured victims a speedy recovery.”
