Civil society group, Activists and Citizens Forum, has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appointment of Parliamentarian Dina Pule as Social Development Minister.

The Presidency announced the Cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday night following consultations with Democratic Alliance leaders as part of the Government of National Unity (GNU).

Pule, a former Communications minister in the Jacob Zuma administration, was removed from cabinet after the Public Protector found her guilty of maladministration and improper conduct.

The Forum’s Dennis Bloem says Pule’s appointment is scandalous.

“It is a shame that President Cyril Ramaphosa reappointed Dina Pule as minister, who was fired by former President Jacob Zuma for gross corruption and was found guilty of lying to parliament’s joint committee on ethics and members’ interests. It is very clear to us that President Cyril Ramaphosa is not serious in rooting out corruption.”
