Ramaphosa to lead SA tech mission to Silicon Valley
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, says South Africa is continuing to ensure that the country is developing the tech industry.
Speaking to SABC News, Tau said the South African business delegation will accompany President Cyril Ramaphosa during his visit to Silicon Valley in the United States, where he will be hosted by tech giants in the US.
“The delegation is led by the President of the US and California in particular and is looking at Silicon Valley and implementing our digitalisation strategy. As a country, you would know that our industrial development strategy includes digitalisation as a focus area. It’s one of the three pillars that drive that agenda. So this is part of a process of doing that. What we’re going to do there is take both government business delegation and other stakeholders to ensure that there’s business-to-business engagement, but there are also learnings. It also influences the sort of investment decisions that we, as a country, will be making in relation to growing that sector and anchoring it as part of our growth trajectory”
