International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola has called for stronger business ties with Canada.

He delivered the keynote address at the Southern Africa-Canada Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Engagement, urging the Chamber to work more closely with the government to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Lamola says, “I encourage the Chamber and its members to work closely with our government and institutions in developing a focused programme of commercial projects within our 5+1 family. Let us continue to strengthen our business-to-business networks, expand engagement between Canada and South African provinces, and bring research institutions and investors into the same conversations.”

Chief Executive Officer of the Southern Africa-Canada Chamber of Commerce, Mike Morgan, echoed a similar sentiment.

Morgan says, “We’re coming off a strong base where the mutual trust between Canada and South Africa is at an all-time high. It’s incredibly strong, and it makes our task as a chamber of business a lot easier

“But primarily we’re there to drive cross-border engagement, Canada to South Africa and also South Africa to Canada, and primarily to drive foreign direct investment. That is absolutely important,” adds Morgan.
