Two arrested in Cape Town for possession of unlicensed firearms – SABC News
A 24-year-old male suspect and a 35-year-old woman have been arrested in Cape Town in separate incidents for the alleged possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi says police in the Manenberg area were conducting stop-and-search patrols when they spotted three men approaching.
Swartbooi says officers followed them and located one man hiding in nearby premises. He says the man was searched and was found in possession of a firearm without a valid licence.
“In an unrelated intervention, the police members entered a premises in Irvine Street and searched the occupants. Their patience paid off when they recovered a .38 Special revolver with ammunition and arrested a 35-year-old female for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court.”
