Young Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) supporters attending the party’s 50th anniversary celebrations say they want to hear plans to address youth unemployment in South Africa.

The supporters believe the IFP’s role in the government of national unity should be used to create more job opportunities.

Philani Nyandeni, from Johannesburg’s Ward 123, says attending the event is important.

“I see it very important for me to partake in this function that is taking place to celebrate 50 years of integrity, services, as well as service delivery,” he says.

Nyandeni highlighted the IFP’s contributions, particularly those of its late founder, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

“The IFP has made major contributions, and even this town was built by the founder of the IFP, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. He also built universities, schools, and high schools, which assisted in the development of young people. I feel that as young people, we do need to embrace and celebrate 50 years of this party,” he added.

Another supporter, who traveled from Port Shepstone, says young people want the party to use its position in government to tackle unemployment.

“We want the party to ensure that it takes advantage of its position in the government of national unity to address challenges faced by young people,” he says.
