The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has condemned the nomination of Leo Brent Bozell III as US ambassador to South Africa.

The party has blasted the Trump administration saying this is a calculated act of aggression and the declaration of a war against the sovereign state.

Recently, the US expelled South African ambassador Ebrahim Rasool.

Pretoria is still seeking to engage with Washington amid the US cutting aid and criticizing South Africa’s land reform programme.

The EFF says Bozell is no ordinary diplomat, but a well-documented conservative man who is a fierce defender of right-wing extremism, whose career has been built on undermining progressive values and perpetuate division.

The party says it views this appointment as a clear indication that the Trump administration is aggressively targeting South Africa for taking Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICC).

It further adds that South Africa must reject Bozell’s credentials outright and for the US to reconsider this nomination.
