Asbestos trial back in court – SABC News
The multi-million rand asbestos roof removal trial continues in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein today.
Addressing the court on the second day of the trial last week, Prosecutor and Senior Council Nazeer Cassim told the court that millions of rands were distributed between businessmen, powerful politicians and high-ranking officials.
Cassim says the state will call witnesses who will testify to how the accused siphoned off money from the Department of Human Settlements and received rewards.
He says, “Some of the R10 million to accused 13 between November 2014 and March 2015 and a sum of R5 million to accused number one on the period from November 2014 and March 2015, and a sum of R1 million to accused 12 over the period November 2014 and March 2015 and R 1 million to accused 18 over the same period. Numbers don’t lie.”
