Utility back Joseph Suaalii did not suffer any fractures against the Reds on Friday and remains in contention for the British & Irish Lions in Australia.
The 21-year-old Suaalii left the field on a medical cart in a neck brace after colliding with Waratahs teammate Andrew Kellaway’s knee during a 28-21 defeat in Sydney. The injury initially raised fears of something more serious.
But Waratahs head coach Dan McKellar allayed concerns post-match, saying, “No, not that I’ve been told at the moment. I don’t think there’s any X-rays, and that [broken bones] hasn’t been mentioned. So it’s a concussion.”

Suaalii will now follow the standard 12-day concussion stand-down, which resets if symptoms persist. His injury came on a night where Wallabies head coach Joe Schmidt was in the stands, scouting for Lions series candidates.
Reds flyhalf Tom Lynagh also left the field after a head knock, while three yellow cards added to the tension of a scrappy contest.
Reflecting on the match, Tahs skipper Jake Gordon told Stan Sport, “I thought when we played on the front foot tonight we looked really good. We had a few poor moments.
“Small margins against good teams hurt.”
