SAWS issues extreme weather warning for parts of EC, KZN for Tuesday – SABC News

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued level five and six warnings for parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal for Tuesday.

It issued an Orange level 6 warning for disruptive snow over the Joe Gqabi District Municipality, Enoch Mgijima and Matatiele Local Municipalities of the Eastern Cape.

It has also issued an Orange level 6 warning for disruptive rain leading to flooding in Amathole, OR Tambo as well as the Buffalo City District Municipalities of the Eastern Cape.

An Orange level 6 warning has been issued for damaging winds and waves between the Kei River Mouth and Port Edward.

SAWS further issued an Orange level 5 warning for disruptive rain leading to danger to life, flooding over the Alfred Nzo, Makana, Ndlambe, Kouga, and Koukamma Municipalties of the province.

A level four warning has been issued for damaging winds and waves along the coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

South Africans have been warned to exercise extreme caution on the icy and wet roads in many parts of the country.

SABC meteorologist Mpho Rasimphi says, “When the road is flooded, all we can do is to just go back. Let’s not try to cross that stream especially in terms of the rivers as they are flowing because it has been raining for a long time. So, you must always try to be careful in those areas.”

“We have icy roads and where it’s been raining visibility is reduced and roads are slippery which we just need to be careful. Especially when driving, make sure that, if possible, let’s stay indoors but if you have to go outside let’s practice caution. For closed roads don’t force to try to drive in those roads.”
