12-year-old charged with culpable homicide after fatal joyride in Brakpan – SABC News
A 12-year-old has appeared before the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court in Gauteng’s East Rand on charges of culpable homicide and driving without a license.
A 14-year-old died after being hit by a vehicle that was allegedly being driven by the minor at the weekend.
The 12-year-old was accompanied to court by his guardian.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says the accused was released into the care of his parents.
“The 12-year-old was then taken to the Brakpan charge office and later released into the care of his parents by police on 08 June 2025. In court, the matter was postponed to 28 August 2025 to determine his criminal capacity.”
