DA urges Lesufi to fill 110 SAPS mechanic vacancies – SABC News

The Democratic Alliance (DA), in Gauteng says critical shortages of mechanics at the South African Police Services’ (SAPS) garages in the province are severely impacting crime prevention efforts.

The DA’s Gauteng Shadow MEC for Community Safety, Crezane Bosch says there are currently 110 vacancies for mechanics.

Bosch says this results in delayed repairs and the unavailability of vehicles.

“Premier, Panyaza Lesufi confirmed this when questioned by the DA and condemns the Lesufi led government’s failure to prioritize public safety and job creation especially in a province battling with high crime and unemployment,” says Bosch.

“We call on Premier Lesufi to urgently engage Minister of Police and South African Police Service (SAPS) leadership to fill these critical posts,” she adds.
