Inquest into Griffith's Mxenge death provisionally adjourned
The re-opening of the inquest into the death of anti-apartheid activist Griffiths Mxenge has been provisionally adjourned in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
Scheduled for Tuesday, court proceedings were halted due to the need for some witnesses to secure legal representation.
While the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) expressed readiness to proceed with the inquest, complications arose amidst ongoing efforts from key witnesses to appoint legal counsel.
“The court, at the request of the Prosecution, ordered that, should the process of appointment of legal representatives not be finalised by the above date, the relevant parties must appear in court to explain the reasons for the delay,” said NPA spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara.
The matter will resume on October 9, 2025.
