NW warns of traffic learnership scam preying on unemployed youth – SABC News

The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport has issued a warning to the public about an apparent scam on traffic learnership.

The scam reportedly targets unsuspecting and desperate unemployed young people and promises to train them as traffic officers and promises those who have already applied to take them to college.

An alleged scammer, a man called Mr. Mantswe has allegedly solicited money from unemployed young people, under the guise of coming from the office of the MEC in the Department of Community Safety and Transport.

Several young people have allegedly fallen prey to the scam and have reportedly paid R700 each for transport.

The head of the department, Dr. Hans Kekana says the traffic learnership recruitment process has been concluded and those who have been scammed should lay charges with the police.

Kekana says their departmental legal unit has already laid charges.
