Archdiocese of Durban mourns the death of Father Wandile Cagwe
The Archdiocese of Durban is mourning the loss of Father Wandile Cagwe who passed in the early hours of Thursday morning.
He had been undergoing treatment at the Life Westville Hospital and was in a critical condition.
“We sincerely thank all who supported him through their prayers and will release a more comprehensive statement in due course.
“May God bless him as he finds rest and peace, now freed from suffering and pain,” the body said in a short post on Facebook.
According to a statement issued by Archbishop S.M. Jwara CMM, Cagwe was much loved by his fellow brother clergy.
“He was known for his sharp mind, as well as his good and gentle nature, a keen intelligence, and a disarming charm. His deep faith impressed many around him, especially as he struggled with personal health issues, which plagued the last few years of his life,” Jwara said.
He further extended his gratitude to the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes for their care of him as a resident priest, as well as to his medical team, the doctors and nurses at Westville Hospital, who helped to care for him, and comfort him, in his final moments.
His funeral will be held at the Emmanuel Cathedral, at 10am, on Monday, July 7, and all are invited to pay their respects.
“I ask that you keep the repose of his soul in your prayers, and that you pray for his family during this most sensitive period of mourning,” Jwara said.
