KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has revealed that a total of 121 cases that were under investigation were taken away from the political killings task team before its disbandment.
Mkhwanazi was briefing the media on South African Police Service (SAPS) operational matters in the province.
Mkwanazi has implicated some senior SAPS officials of involvement in corruption.
He has accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of being in constant communication with people involved in criminal activities.
Mkhwanazi also says police have been in possession of firearms linked to the killing of high-profile South Africans, including artists in Gauteng, but no action has been taken.
Commissioner further revealed that the disbandment of the task team happened at a time when a syndicate had been unmasked involving politicians, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, amongst others.
