Italy are anticipating a Bok-backlash when the teams meet at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.
Loose forward Alessandro Izekor says the excitement levels in the squad are still high following their Loftus showing, but says there’s also an awareness that a daunting Test lies ahead.
“It was a huge thrill to play against South Africa. Especially in the second half, we showed a big reaction and strong performance. We know the next game could be even tougher than the one in Pretoria.”

The Springboks were not happy with the quality of their performance in the 42-24 win, and as a result coach Rassie Erasmus has made 11 changes to his starting fifteen – opting to give some of the more explosive players in the squad a start.
But Izekor says they’re not too focused on what the Springboks are doing at this stage. He says for them it’s all about executing the plans they’ve put in place.
“Our focus is on our performance and what we can control. Accuracy and attention to detail will be even more important in Port Elizabeth.”
Izekor also credited the team’s senior players for helping the newcomers settle quickly.
“Just like it was for me, the support of the whole group is vital – especially from the senior players. All the new guys are given detailed information in every area so they’re ready for anything, on and off the pitch.”
