Another cold front expected to rip through the western parts of South Africa
Another cold front is expected to breeze over the western parts of South Africa from Friday.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is predicting very cold, as well as wet and windy conditions in the Western Cape and Northern Cape.
The SAWS said the cold front would result in daytime temperatures of just 10 degrees and below in some areas, and wind speeds of up to 30km/h. Widespread rain is also expected.
“It will also be wet in southern parts of the Namakwa district in the Northern Cape, Witzenberg and Breede Valley Municipalities including the Koue Bokkeveld in the Western Cape,” the forecaster said.
The SAWS is predicting temperatures of between 11°C and 14°C on Friday and 8°C to 14°C on Saturday. The eastern parts of South Africa should see warmer conditions moving into the weekend, with Johannesburg expected to experience a temperature range of 7°C to 19°C on Friday and 8°C to 20°C on Saturday.
Western Cape residents have been urged to avoid flooded areas, and look out for official updates on the weather, while small stock farmers are advised to protect their livestock.
The Western Cape has been hit by days of heavy rain and strong winds, causing flooding and damage in many areas.
In Cape Town, informal settlements in Langa, Masicendani and Kampies were badly affected, with over 100 homes damaged and hundreds of people displaced. Roads in Drakenstein, Bonnievale, and parts of the Overberg district were also flooded and temporarily closed.
The City’s Fire and Rescue Service responded to 236 accidents in just ten days, including 162 car crashes and 74 pedestrian incidents.
