Potter fires back at Woodward jibe
Wallabies winger Harry Potter hopes the magic of the MCG rubs off on them when they take on the British & Irish Lions in the must-win second Test on Saturday.
He’s also rubbished suggestions that Australia have a “losing mentality”, but admitted they must bounce back strongly in Melbourne.

The Wallabies fell to a 27-19 defeat in Brisbane, sparking criticism from former England coach Clive Woodward, who took aim at Aussie skipper Harry Wilson’s decision to kick the ball dead at the final hooter instead of playing on in search of a late try.
“Talk about a losing mentality,” Woodward wrote in a UK column.
“Why would any player, especially the captain, want to end the game?”
But Potter dismissed the remarks as nonsense.
“It’s pretty ridiculous to suggest that the 23 people who played on the weekend have a mentality of losing,” the MCG-based winger fired back.
“We went out there to win the game. That was our intention and you could tell from every player out there.”
Australia need to level the series at a sold-out Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday to take the battle to a decider in Sydney. Potter admitted the team had been blunt in their post-match review but believed lessons had been learned.
“It’s been tough looking back. We didn’t put our best foot forward, especially in the first 50 or 60 minutes,” he said.
“But towards the end we showed that, if we stick to our plan and keep pressure on, we’re in with a real shot.”
With their backs to the wall, Potter says there’s no doubt about what’s at stake.
“Emotionally, it’s very simple this week – there’s clarity. Everyone knows the task at hand.”
The Wallabies have also given an injury update.
Reds centre Josh Flook has been drafted into the squad to replace Filipo Daugunu, who’s unavailable due to concussion suffered during Tuesday’s match.
