The parents of a two-year-old boy and four-year-old girl from Eldorado Park south of Johannesburg have been arrested on charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.

This after the mother confirmed to police that her partner has been allegedly sexually abusing and assaulting the children.

The girl child is fighting for her life in a critical condition at the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital in Soweto.

The father was arrested on Wednesday after tenants reported hearing the child scream and being assaulted repeatedly.

Johannesburg District Police Commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Khubeka, “We had to arrange the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit because we had some suspicion. When they visited crime scene, they searched the house and found some clothes that had blood. The mother of the child was already in the hospital. The FCS went to the mother of the child and interrogated her and she confirmed that the father has been abusing the two kids. We had to arrest also the mother of the child.”
