A motorist has been shot and killed on the N1 road outside Louis Trichardt, in Limpopo.

Police say a motorist travelling with two other people had a breakdown near Rondebosch plot.

An unknown motorist also stopped and opened fire.

The driver tried to run away but was hit in the head and upper body.

He died on the scene.

The whereabouts of the occupants remains unknown.
