The desperate search for a missing six-year-old ended in heartbreak on Monday night, when the child was discovered floating in a swimming pool at Brazilia Place in Umbilo, Durban.

It is believed that the child went missing around 6pm.

Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics said emergency services were on standby.

“Around 8.35pm, patrollers and security officials found the child in a residential pool.

“He was pulled from the water and despite intervention efforts, he suffered fatal injuries, and there was nothing more paramedics could have done for him,” he said.

Jamieson said the boy was declared deceased at the scene.

“The scene was cordoned off and handed over to police,” he added.

Jamieson said the matter is under investigation.
