Alleged Sexy Boys gang leader Jerome “Donkie” Booysen and his businessman son Joel’s viewing of the Springbok training session in Belhar earlier this week ended on a sour note thanks to the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU).

In preparation for the Springboks game against the Wallabies on Saturday, the back-to-back world champions made a stop to train at the Erica Park sports ground. Klompie supporters turned out in droves to watch coach Rassie Erasmus put his squad through their paces, including rugby enthusiasts Donkie and his son Joel.

However, their excitement quickly turned to shock as AGU police officials launched an unexpected intervention, confiscating firearms from a vehicle believed to belong to their associates.

According to the Daily Voice, the firearms are legally licensed. A video shared on social media captured Joel confronting an AGU official, visibly upset by the encounter.

Jerome Booysen is currently facing trial at the Western Cape High Court for the murder of notorious steroid kingpin Brian Wainstein. Alongside him in the indictment are Mark Lifman and Andre Naude, both of whom were shot dead in offences linked to a broader web of violence last year.

Additional charges against Booysen include conspiracy to commit public violence and intimidation, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, conspiracy to commit murder, and various gang-related offences. This high-profile case incorporates a trial-within-a-trial to assess intercepted phone calls connected to a drug syndicate, which the State alleges Booysen and others were orchestrating.

The drug trial has been postponed until November, as it has been confirmed that both cases cannot proceed concurrently. Jerome and his co-accused Kenneth Hansen, Kristo Mariens, Clinton Langeveld, Jennen Jansen, and Herbert Zoutman confront a staggering total of over 90 charges concerning drug trafficking under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).

The group has been implicated in various drug dealing operations that have been under scrutiny for several years as part of a Hawks investigation. It is alleged that Mandrax was smuggled from numerous locations, including over 90 properties in Kasselsvlei, Bellville, and Glenhaven, where it was thought to be distributed.

In the meantime, Joel Booysen has continued to maintain a high profile, frequently spotted at his nightclub, Sneaker Cartel, located in Cape Town’s CBD. His nightlife ventures may contrast sharply against the troubling backdrop of his family’s legal entanglements.

The Daily Voice reached out to the Belhar Community Policing Forum (CPF) board for insight into the matter; however, they declined to comment as they were not aware of the incident.
