Mkhwanazi set to testify first before Parly Ad Hoc Committee – SABC News
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will be the first witness to appear before the Ad Hoc Committee looking into allegations that he made of threats to national security.
That’s the resolution of the committee after adopting the terms of reference and amendments.
Mkhwanazi alleged that some of the senior police personnel are colluding with criminal syndicates.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has since been placed on special leave regarding the matter.
Chairperson of the committee Molapi Lekganyane, says, “The first person in the SAPS will be General Mkhwanazi and then there are other four which is General Masemola, who is the accounting head. The minister who was there Minister Mchunu and the deputy commissioner who was there Commissioner Sibiya. And then the current minister and his deputies.”
Former Police Minister Bheki Cele will be among witnesses who will be called to appear before parliament to answer about his role regarding allegations about criminal elements in the criminal justice system.
The Ad Hoc Committee set up to investigate these allegations has resolved to include Cele as a witness.
The committee has also finally adopted its terms of reference.
It’s tasked with investigating allegations by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
It has adopted its terms of reference so that it can start its work.
Lekganyane says, “Okay, Andile you hear that the name of the former minister Bheki Cele has been added to the list. He is no longer in the office, of course. The committee is putting the name there. We will come and then once we have listened to those that are there, order the manner in which Bheki Cele and other witnesses will be appearing before the committee,” says Lekganyane.
