Two killed in a road crash on the R101 in Limpopo – SABC News


Two people have been killed in a road crash on the R101 road between Mokopane and Mookgophong in Limpopo.

The accident was at the same spot where a police officer died together with eight inmates last week, when they were transported from the police holding cells in Mokopane to the court in Mookgophong.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says a sedan collided with a truck.

Meanwhile, the funeral service of 43-year-old Sergeant Nyiko Lelaka is underway at the Mookgophong community hall.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Mashaba says, “We are told that a truck and a Renault collided in the same spot where our officer and inmates perished last week on the 14th of August 2025, but we are told that there are also two occupants of a private motor vehicle who were taken to a neighbour hospital to receive medical attention.”

The death toll from the tragic accident that occurred on Thursday, 14 August 2025, on the R101 road between Mokopane and Mookgopong in Limpopo, has risen to nine.
