Social media users pay tribute to Nandi Nyembe – SABC News

South Africans have taken to social media to pay tribute to award-winning veteran actress Nandi Nyembe who died on Saturday at the age of 75.

Nyembe was wheelchair-bound due to her deteriorating health.

She had been facing significant financial difficulties and was seeking help. Nyembe was best known for her role as Sister Lizzie in Soul City as well as Nandi Sibiya in the soccer drama Zone 14.

She also acted as MaGetty on Adulting, a series on Showmax.

Nyembe has been described by many as a great South African storyteller and actress.

Aubrey Senyolo says Nyembe is a true legend whose legacy will live on through her timeless performances.

Meanwhile, graphic designer David Tshabalala says, “Mam Nandi’s ability to portray motherly, wise, and strong female figures made her a trusted face on South African screens for decades. She literally raised us from the other side of the TV screen.”

Actress Zenande Mfenyana adds, “From growing up watching Mam’Nandi on Kideo telling us African stories to having the honour and pleasure of working alongside her on Ashes to Ashes and The Queen…my heart is shattered.”
