Suspect linked to Chatsworth murders shot dead by police
A SUSPECT linked to two Chatsworth murders and 15 robberies was shot and killed after he allegedly pointed a gun at police officers searching for him in the Bottlebrush Informal Settlement.
The 28-year-old suspect was shot after metro police officers had tracked him to his informal home at the settlement in Crossmoor just after midnight last night.
He died shortly thereafter.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a spokesperson for KZN police, said metro police officers were conducting a raid when they traced the suspect to the Chatsworth area.
“He allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the officers who then shot him. The suspect was found in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition,” he said.
Metro police spokesperson, Booysie Zungu, said they were thankful none of the officers had been injured.
A police source said the suspect was being investigated from June, when he was linked to the murder of a Crossmoor man.
“Police had been tracking and tracing him for a long time. He was wanted for terrorising people from Chatsworth. He was linked to two murders and 15 robberies, including a robbery where a security guard was held up and robbed of his firearm.
“He had committed a string of serious and violent crimes, and we are glad that he did not injure or kill any police officers during the incident,” the source said.
