Weekend weather forecast: Mixed conditions across South Africa

South Africans can look forward to a mixed bag of weather this weekend, with clear skies dominating much of the interior while showers brush coastal regions.

According to South African Weather Service (SAWS), Saturday, August 30, is expected to bring largely fine conditions across most of the country with no severe weather warnings in place.

The eastern coastline, including Durban and Richards Bay, has a 30% chance of rain, while parts of the southern Cape near George and Port Elizabeth may also see morning showers of the same likelihood.

Inland areas such as Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Kimberley are set for sunshine and fresh breezes, keeping conditions crisp but dry.

By Sunday, August 31, the weather begins to shift. Fine skies persist in the central and western interior, with warmer conditions taking hold across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Free State.

The northern interior may experience hot temperatures. Cooler air will creep into the western and southern coastline, accompanied by a 30% chance of rain around East London and parts of the Wild Coast.

Coastal winds are expected to strengthen, particularly along the Eastern Cape where gusts could exceed 40km/h.

The weekend concludes with a sharp contrast between the cooler southern coastline and the warm to hot interior, setting the stage for an unsettled start to the new week.
