Families shocked by state witness testimony in Lusikisiki massacre – SABC News
The trial of the six men accused of the Ngobozana Massacre in Lusikisiki has been postponed to Wednesday.
The accused who turned state witness, Lwando Anthony Abi, continued with his testimony today at the Mthatha High Court sitting in Lusikisiki.
Abi told the court that he transported accused persons Aphiwe Ndende, Siphosoxolo Myekethe, Bonga Hintsa and Songezo Vuma to Ngobozana.
He testified that he was given instructions by accused number one, Mzukisi Ndamase, to get a car that won’t be known in Lusikisiki, as he was based in East London.
He alleges Ndamase wanted the men who allegedly shot and injured his nephew to be killed.
Abi says he dropped the men in Ngobozana and heard multiple gunshots.
The families expressed shock as they heard that Ndamase made multiple phone calls to the accused number five, 21-year-old Songezo Vuma.
Spokesperson for the families, David King, says he was shocked at the testimony.
“Especially my brother, who was sitting next to me, because when the witness was actually outlining what happened on the night, I saw him crying next to me. I was also surprised to hear that Ndamase could pick up calls and make calls just like that whilst he was in prison, and it actually raises questions as to the prisons that we have in South Africa – are they really doing what they are supposed to be?”
