SA institutes ICJ proceedings to preserve Palestinians as a group – SABC News

South Africa has instituted proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to preserve the existence of the Palestinian people as a group.
Minister Ronald Lamola briefed the Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation regarding South Africa’s ICJ court case against Israel.
He says the move is also aimed at ending all acts of apartheid and genocide against the Palestinian people.
Lamola says the case will continue until the ICJ makes a finding and its potential outcome could resonate far beyond Israel and Palestine.
“As we have said to the UN General Assembly recently all obstacles to the two-state solution should be removed and this includes the immediate ceasefire and commitment to a peace process. The release of hostages by Hamas and political prisoners by the state of Israel. The halting of illegal Israel settlement expansion, the removal of illegal separation wall cutting across the occupied Palestinian territory and the resumption of all international reputable Palestinian territory. The reputable humanitarian relief and the reconstruction of Gaza which of course can only take place once there is peace”
