Tane Edmed will steer the Wallabies from flyhalf for the first time when they face Argentina in Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test at the Sydney Football Stadium.

The 25-year-old Sydney native replaces Tom Lynagh, who is sidelined with a hamstring strain, in one of four changes to Joe Schmidt’s starting XV after last week’s dramatic comeback win in Townsville.

Edmed, who debuted against Ireland last year, partners Hunter Paisami in a new-look 10-12 axis. Paisami takes over from the injured Len Ikitau, joining Joe Suaalii in midfield after his two-try heroics against Los Pumas.

Up front, veteran loosehead James Slipper will edge closer to a historic milestone as he prepares to win his 149th cap, just one short of becoming the first Wallaby to reach 150 Tests. Slipper anchors the scrum alongside Billy Pollard and Taniela Tupou.

Western Force captain Jeremy Williams is recalled to the second row, partnering Tom Hooper, with Nick Frost managed due to a back niggle. The loose trio of Rob Valetini, Fraser McReight and captain Harry Wilson remains intact.

In the back three, Andrew Kellaway continues at fullback with Sydney speedster Max Jorgensen and Olympian Corey Toole out wide, while the bench features first 2025 appearances for hooker Josh Nasser and lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto.

Coach Schmidt welcomed the injection of fresh energy but warned of Argentina’s threat after Michael Cheika’s side dominated much of the first clash.

“While managing injuries is always a challenge, we’re excited to have some fresh bodies who have been training hard with the group for a number of weeks and are keen to contribute,” Schmidt said.

“Argentina led for the whole game in Townsville until the very end and we’re very aware of the threat they’ll pose on Saturday afternoon. We’ll need to be better than we were last week.”
