Eastern Cape taxi boss shot dead with his own gun during copper theft row – police launch manhunt
Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly killed an Eastern Cape taxi boss.
It is understood that the suspect used the victim’s firearm to kill him.
The incident took place on Saturday in NU9, Mdantsane.
According to police reports, an occupant in a house belonging to the deceased informed him about the suspect who was stealing copper from his house.
“The deceased came to his house and went to investigate, and upon questioning the alleged suspect, he denied it, and the deceased tried to take him to the police station,” said police spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala.
“The suspect then grabbed the deceased’s firearm that was in his waist and shot at him in his upper body.
“A chase ensued, and the deceased bumped the suspect with his vehicle, and he fell but stood up and ran through the footpath.
“When the occupant of the house arrived next to the deceased vehicle, he found him lying on the steering wheel, asking him to call the ambulance. He tried to get a vehicle that would take him to the hospital, but when the vehicle came, they found him out of the car, lying on the ground and he had already passed away.
Police are appealing for information.
