Pupils at Teto Secondary in Welkom share stories of suicide attempts – SABC News
Learners at Teto Secondary School at Welkom in the Free State have shared heartbreaking stories about their suicide attempts.
This happened during a Suicide Prevention Campaign held at the school.
One of the learners says bullying at school caused her to attempt suicide three times.
She says after one of the attempts she had to miss school for three months while recovering from home.
The provincial Department of Basic Education’s Bukelwa Qwelane has expressed concern that more than 160 suicide attempts by learners have been recorded between January and August this year, while four learners managed to commit suicide.
