Man, 62, killed in brutal weekend violence in Nelson Mandela Bay



A 62-year-old man was shot through the neck and killed in his flat — one of at least five brutal murders that rocked Nelson Mandela Bay at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Captain André Beetge said the incident occurred in a flatlet in China Street, Timothy Valley, at about 2.15am on Sunday.

“The motive and identities of the suspects involved in the murder are being investigated,” Beetge said.

“A murder case was opened and being investigated by Bethelsdorp police.”

About an hour later, a 47-year-old man was gunned down outside in Bossi Street, Despatch.

Beetge said his body was found at about 3.25am.

“He had a gunshot wound to his head,” he said.

“The motive and identity of the suspect in the murder is being investigated by Despatch police.”

At about 9.25am on Sunday another man was shot dead in Kwazakhele.

According to Beetge, the 24-year-old’s body was found in a playground next to Seyisi Street.

“He had several gunshot wounds to his head and the motive and identities of the suspects in the murder are being investigated.”

On Saturday at about 5pm, a 40-year-old man was shot several times in his head by unknown suspects outside a tavern in Bikana Street, Motherwell.

Beetge said the incident happened in NU4 of the township.

He said the motive motive and identities of the suspects were not immediately known.

Also on Saturday, at about 9.40pm, two men had an argument and one stabbed the other in McBride Street, Soweto-on-Sea.

Beetge said the victim, 39, was taken to hospital where he was declared dead.

“The 27-year-old male suspect was arrested and will appear before court on Tuesday

“A murder case was opened and being investigated by Kwazakhele police.”
