Prayer to be held in Soweto for safety of police officers – SABC News
A national prayer day will be held in Pimville, Soweto, on Friday morning, for the safety of police officers.
Between April 1, last year and March 31, this year, 27 police officers were killed in the line of duty.
Nineteen of them were shot and killed and seven others died in road crashes.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says September is police safety month.
“We will be holding a National Day of Prayer. We are praying for God to intervene and prevent the ongoing killing of our police. We will be praying for the mental health of our members. We have challenges where members commit suicide. Members are going through a lot of challenges in terms of their mental health,” says Mathe.
