Ward, Green get on scoresheet
Jeremy Ward and Tyrone Green crossed the whitewash as South Africa’s foreign legion impressed in the Top 14 and English Premiership this past weekend.
French Top 14
Former Sharks centre Jeremy Ward dotted down as Stade Francais smashed Champions Cup holders Bordeaux Begles 28-7 at the Stade Jean Bouin in Paris. South African trio Rohan Janse Van Rensburg, Carlu Sadie and Tiaan Jacobs all ran out for Bordeaux.
Former SWD Eagles prop Nemo Roelofse packed down for Perpignan in their 31-8 defeat to La Rochelle. Scrumhalf James Hall featured off the bench for Perpignan.
Three South Africans featured for newly-promoted Montauban in their 22-22 draw against Montpellier. Hooker Ru-hann Greyling started in the pack, while former Stormers and Sharks loose forward Sikhumbuzo Notshe made an impact as a replacement. JT Jackson started in midfield for Montauban.
Former Stormers No 9 Herschel Jantjies started for Bayonne in their 35-32 win against Toulon in Bayonne.
English Premiership
Lock Ernst van Rhyn captained the Sale Sharks in their 27-10 Premiership opening win against Gloucester. Jacques Vermeulen added power to the Sharks pack, while Rob du Preez started in midfield and replacement Hyron Andrews powered over for a try from the bench. Former Lions and Sharks flanker James Venter started for Gloucester.
Scrumhalf Ivan van Zyl‘s Saracens demolished the Newcastle Red Bulls 39-17 in Newcastle. Former Bulls and Sharks fullback Boeta Chamberlain started for Newcastle, while prop Luan de Bruin anchored their front row.
Replacement prop Frans van Wyk helped Johann van Graan‘s Bath open their 2025-26 account with a 47-31 win against Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop. Quins fullback Tyrone Green scored a try, while former Sharks prop Jordan Els featured off the bench.
Former Stormers front-row duo Joseph Dweba and Kwenzo Blose featured for the Exeter Chiefs in their 33-33 draw with the Northampton Saints. Lock JJ van der Mescht made an appearance for Saints.
Benhard Janse van Rensburg’s Bristol Bears got the better of the Handre Pollard-less Leicester Tigers 42-24 at the Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol. Former Bulls bruiser Hanro Liebenberg started at flank for the Tigers.
