KZN MEC urges parents to protect children as heavy rains persist – SABC News

KwaZulu-Natal Co-operative Governance MEC Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi has urged parents to ensure the safety of their children in the inclement weather.

His remarks come after multiple weather-related incidents across the province following heavy rainfall that began on Sunday and is expected to persist throughout the week.

The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 4 weather warning for severe thunderstorms across the KZN province.

While no major incidents have been reported so far, Buthelezi has urged motorists to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.

He says their disaster management teams remain on high alert.

“The driving conditions remain very dangerous in KwaZulu-Natal due to the heavy rains. We therefore urge our people to remain indoors and to avoid low-lying areas and especially children who are going to school, for parents to ensure that they do not cross rivers because the danger is very extreme. We urge our motorists to keep a safe following distance because the weather is still going to be inclement for quite a few days.”
