SAWS warns Tshwane residents of possible severe thunderstorms – SABC News

The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 alert for severe thunderstorms in the Tshwane area, urging residents to remain cautious.

The thunderstorms, which are expected to affect most parts of Gauteng, are forecast from 2 p.m. on Monday until 10 pm in the evening.

Emergency services spokesperson, Nana Radebe-Kgiba says heavy downpours may lead to localized flooding, damaging winds, and motor vehicle accidents due to slippery roads, among other hazards.

“We are urging residents to remain indoors where possible and avoid metal objects such as fences or power lines that can conduct electricity. Refrain from seeking shelter under isolated trees or tall objects. Never attempt to cross flooded roads,” says Radebe-Kgiba.

Residents can report fire or rescue emergencies by calling 107 (toll-free) or alternatively 012 358 6300 / 6400.
