Western Cape Police say they have arrested three suspects in separate incidents on Wednesday for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says members of Public Order Police were conducting foot patrols in the Paarl East area in the Boland when they stopped and searched a man and seized a 9mm pistol and a .38 revolver with ammunition.

Twigg adds more arrests were made in an unrelated incident.

“Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team conducted an intelligence driven operation in Ouhout Street, Delft, where they searched the premises and confiscated two 9mm pistols without serial numbers and ammunition,” he says.

Twigg says they arrested two suspects aged 32 and 38 for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Once charged, the suspects will make their court appearances in Paarl and Bellville, respectively.
